What to know before your first massage appointment

A reassuring first-timer’s guide to choosing a treatment, preparing, privacy and talking to your therapist.

Choosing the right massage

For your first appointment, choose the massage that matches what you want from it. A stronger massage is no better by default. Wanting to relax, having tension in one area or wanting a more sensory session with aromatic oils each call for a different choice.

Before your appointment

Arrive a few minutes early, avoid a heavy meal and drink enough water so you can start relaxed. If you are sensitive to any products or have an ongoing health condition, tell the team.

Pressure and communication

If the pressure, the room temperature or the music does not suit you during the massage, say so. Speaking up is a normal part of the session, and a professional therapist adjusts the treatment to your feedback.

Privacy and professional boundaries

The team should explain how to get ready and show you the treatment area. If you feel uncomfortable at any point, you have the right to stop the treatment or ask for a change.

After the session

Rest after your massage without rushing, and keep drinking water. Massage does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment. If a complaint continues, see a health professional.
